More information

Statement from 2nd Lt. Julius Goldstein:
On 24 May 1944 our group was on a mission to bomb the target at Weiner-Neustadt, Austria. I was flying as navigator in ship #339 in the left element of the first attack unit. Lieutenant Layton’s aircraft #41-28975 was in the same element. Soon after the fighters attacked our formation, Lieutenant Layton’s ship was hit in the #4 engine. The ship caught fire and the wing came off. The ship went into a steep dive. I saw no chutes leave the aircraft. The time was 1025 and the coordinates were 4750N-1610E.
Sgt Trinnier was initially buried on Main-Cemetery of Sankt Poelten, Group III No. 309.
