The aircraft was hit by flak over the target area. The left wing was shot off, the plane flipped over on its back and went down in a spin. No parachutes were seen to leave the aircraft. The entire crew of six men was killed.S/Sgt Wayne L. Martin is remembered at Bartlett Cemetery in Bartlett, Washington County, Ohio with a memorial marker.
