Algoth Johnson attended high school for one year and worked on a farm.

He enlisted in Hartford, Connecticut on 25 March 1942.

Both his parents were immigrants from Sweden.

In the vicinity of the target area, the plane was hit by heavy anti-aircraft fire. The plane was seen to go down in a ball of fire and explode on the way down. No parachutes were seen to leave the aircraft.

Five crew members were killed. Their remains were found a day later and initially buried in the town cemetery of Rheinberg, Germany.

Co-Pilot Peter S. Orth was the only survivor and was taken prisoner.
