S/Sgt Roy W. Gregory was a chauffeur before he joined the Air Corps of the U.S. Army Reserve in Chattanooga, Tennessee, on 20 May 1942.

The plane was hit by flak. It is believed that they received a direct hit in the cockpit area. Nothing was said over the intercom. The plane went into an immediate spin upon their second hit. Eight crew members were killed in action, and 2 were taken POW.

S/Sgt Roy W. Gregory is also memorialized at Mount Moriah Cemetery in Guest, Alabama.

He was first buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery of Foy, Belgium.
