Per S/Sgt Deese (LWG): "The fighters came after us, shot down the wing crews, and shot us up with 20mm cannon and 13mm machine gun fire. I got 3 pieces of 20mm in my back and Don Gray, RWG, had a 20mm explode in his face and 13mm slugs in both legs. We landed at Brussels and took Gray to the Canadian First Army Field Hospital where he died that night."
