Lt. William F. Delamater graduated from St. Peter's Academy and from La Salle Institute in 1932.He joined the Regular Army in March 1934. He received his commission at Camp Claiborne, Louisiana in April 1943 and was sent overseas in September 1944.
He was reported slightly wounded in action on New Year's Day 1945. Three weeks later, after recovering from his wound he returned to his unit.
