More information

After completing bomb run, the ship was seen to lose altitude with #4 engine feathered. After leaving the formation, no further observation reported. The ship was hit by flak. All crewmembers, except for the pilot, bailed out. According to a crewmember, the German's claimed that they had found the body of First Lieutenant Mullane in the wreckage of the aircraft.
He was initially buried at the cemetery Niederseelbach, grave 7.
