More information

Milton H. Huebner graduated from Sumner High School and was a salesman in his father's business.

He joined the Air Corps of the U.S. Army Reserve in Des Moines, Iowa on 2 November 1942.

Statement of 2nd Lt Nelson H. Wieland, who flew in the same mission: "On 25th December 1944, I was flying farmhouse green two in the area of Bonn, Germany. After our combat with one FW-190 on the deck, we broke off, gained about 500 feet, when we saw another FW-190 being pursued by a P-51 on the deck. We turned and followed in behind. The P-51 was closing, so he slid out and up to the left. My leader was in range, so he shot a burst at the FW-190. Meanwhile, P-51 slipped down into position again at base of small wooded hill. The FW-190 pulled up sharply over the trees, the P-51 tried to pull over the trees but hit them instead. The P-51 flipped on its back, was righted again and dished out. It struck the ground and disintegrated. It was after the aircraft struck the trees that I saw the color marking, and identified it as a vortex plane. I did not see what its letter was."
