T/Sgt John D. Urdia Jr. graduated from Senior High School and was employed at the Ohio Brass Company for four years, where he worked as a machinist and the Consolidated Aircraft Company.

He enlisted at Fort Rosencrans, California on 19 December 1941.

His father was born in Rumania and operated a restaurant on Bowman Street in Mansfield.

The aircraft was caught in prop wash, thrown back, and into a spin.

Sgt Urdia had claimed two German fighter planes destroyed on a raid over Berlin on 29 April 1945.
