2nd Lt Robert M. Dalby graduated from Washburn High School and was employed by the Ohio Chemical Co.

He joined the Air Corps of the U.S. Army Reserve in Minneapolis, Minnesota on 5 August 1942.

The airplane was hit by flak and crashed in the town center of Greffen. Eight crew members bailed out and were taken prisoner. Two men were killed.

Lt Dalby's parachute failed to open. He was initially buried at the POW cemetery at Achmer airbase.

Both his brothers also served.
