Capt Robert M Rideout joined his unit from the 41st Replacement Battalion on 31 July 1944. He was promoted to Captain on 17 October 1944.

He was awarded two Silver Stars: the first for action performed on 8 September 1944 in Kergonant, Brittany, France and the second posthumously for action performed on 19 November 1944.
