Sgt Richard J. Sandford joined the Regular Army at Fort Bragg, North Carolina on 7 March 1939. He was sent overseas in October 1944.He was first buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery in Grand Failly, France.
He is also remembered at the Rest Lawn Memorial Park in Junction City, Lane County, Oregon.
