Pvt Charles H. Ashman graduated from Pottsville High School.

He enlisted in Allentown, Pennsylvania on 23 March 1943 and trained at North Camp Polk, Louisiana with an armored infantry regiment before he volunteered for paratrooper training.

A newspaper article in the Pottsville Republican on 2 July 1945 reported that Pvt Ashman drowned.
