More information

The plane left from an airfield near Paris but failed to arrive at his destination. It went missing over France. Al four crew members were killed. The remains of 2nd Lt. Edward Fitzgerald and of the aerial engineer, T/Sgt James E. Blakeley were never found. T/Sgt Blakeley is listed on the Tablets of the Missing at the American Military Cemetery of Cambridge.
The pilot, 1st Lt. Roy A. Nielsen is buried at Ardennes Cemetery and the radio operator, Cpl James E. Baldwin is buried in his hometown, Viola, Richland County, Wisconsin.

2nd Lt Fitzgerald graduated from Perry High School in Perry, Iowa in 1941 and was active in football, basketball, track and band.
He is memorialized at Violet Hill Cemetery in Perry, Iowa.
