More information

Lt Wilson was married to Miss Peggy King in October 1943.

Lt Wilson graduated from the Santa Rosa High School and Junior College, enlisting in the air force and taking his original training at Kelly Field in Texas. He was commissioned as a lieutenant in the summer of 1943 and assigned as pilot of a B-24 bomber. He left Florida for overseas duty on January 6 and was believed on his tenth bombing mission over Germany when his plane was shot out of a bomber formation. He was a member of Santa Rosa Masonic Lodge.

Eye-witness records from returning 392nd crews stated this aircraft had peeled off after the bomb run with bomb bay doors open and falling behind at 1118 hours. The ship was last seen at 1128 hours at position 51-51N, 10-20E, apparently under control with no parachutes having been observed. German Report, # KU1195 recorded the finding of this crashed aircraft and all ten crewmembers who had perished. Time of downing was listed as 1215 hours on this mission date, at a location given as Riddinghausen-Ennepo District Ruhr. An enemy fighter was given as the cause of the plane's crash.
