More information
2nd Lt Andrew B. Stauss graduated from North Hollywood High School in 1939. He attended Santa Barbara State College. He enlisted in January 1942.
"Lt Stauss was flying Keyworth Red 4, on my wing. After many enemy aircraft had attacked the bombers about five to ten miles north-east of Dummer Lake, I attacked one of them. After the attack, Lt Stauss was still with me, and we started to climb. Then I saw another enemy aircraft below and, after clearing both mine and Lt Stauss’ tail, attacked. I missed Lt Stauss immediately after the attack and tried to contact him on the radio transmitter, with no result.
"I did not see him after this. To the best of my knowledge, there were no enemy aircraft behind us, and I was never attacked, although it is estimated that there were over a hundred enemy aircraft in this vicinity."
