2nd Lt Edward J. Kruer graduated from Louisville Male High School and attended the University of Louisville. He was employed as an accountant and office manager.He enlisted in the Army Air Forces on 5 July 1942, as an aviation cadet and received his primary training at Spence Field, Georgia. He was commissioned a second lieutenant at Bennettsville Field, South Carolina, and received his wings and commission at Spence Field, Moultrie, Georgia, in November 1942. Lt Kruer had been overseas since February 1943.
Lt Kruer was killed in a mid-air collision with Lt Lawrence R. Strand in another P-47 (42-7967).
Lt Kruer was a veteran of twenty-one combat missions over enemy territory.
