"I was in the tail gunner position No. 2 plane of the Second Flight and I heard the explosion when Captain Aldridge's plane was hit. I saw hit plane heading directly for our ship in a steep bank. Flames were sweeping back past the waist window on his ship and the top part of the right wing had been torn loose by the explosion. As his plave passed under us, it lost altitude rapidly. about three minutes later I caught sight of it again. Captain Aldridge seemed to have regained control of his ship and was fired upon. His plane began spiraling at about 6000 feet and I last saw him as he leveled off at about 4000 feet. I did not see any parachutes."
Statement from Harley L. Weatherholtz, Staff Sergeant.
He is remembered at Woodlawn National Cemetery in Elmira, New York.
The crew was initially buried at the English Memorial Cemetery St. Riquier-es-Plains, France.
