Pvt Hodlin was married toIrene G. Patnode on 6 July 1935. After the marriage they moved to Watertown where he was employed at the time of induction by Marcy, Buck & Winslow Company

He enlisted on 25 January 25 1944 and received his basic training at Camp Blanding until he was sent overseas in July 1944.
