Statement from William W. Donohoe, Jr., 2nd Lt, Air Corps, Pilot:"I was flying number four position in White flight on Lt Fisher's wing when our group was jumped by forty ME 109s. As our flight started, a turn to the right to meet a wave of E/A coming in at three o´clock. I looked back and saw a flight of four E/A break out of a nearby cloud layer. Not having time to warn the flight, I turned into them. That was the last time I saw Lt Fisher. While I was engaging the four, a fifth E/A came out of the cloud firing a ninety degree deflection shot which caused severe damage to my aircraft and snapped me into a spin. This E/A did not follow me but headed in the direction of white flight."
