Pfc Andrew J. Barrett enlisted in Buffalo, New York on 4 November 1942.

He has lived the greater part of his life in Alfred, Allegany County, New York. He attended Alfred schools and entered service in 1942. Originally he went into service to become a paratrooper, but by an accident to his knee after a landing that career ended. As a plain soldier he went overseas in February 1945.
