More information

2nd Lt John W. Lundin was an electrician.

He volunteered for the Air Corps of the Army of the United States in New York City, New York, on 7 April 1942.

Statement of Cpt Maurice R. McLary:
"I certify that I, Maurice R. McLary, Capt, Air Corps, saw John William Lundin, 2nd Lt Air Corps, in P-38J10-LO type airplane, Air Corps number 42-67887, when his ship went down during combat over enemy territory on 10 February 1944 in the area of Haselunne, Germany.
I was leading the Squadron in White Flight while Lt Lundin was in Yellow Flight directly behind. I last saw Lt Lundin immediately after the report of ´Bandits´, and I had turned left at 180 degrees. I saw a P-38 spinning down. I circled and watched it go down, burst into flames, and disappear into the clouds below. I did not see a parachute open. To my knowledge, this was the last sighting of Lt Lundin."

2nd Lt Lundin was initially buried at the Russian Cemetery of Vechta.
