Cpl Carl H. Inglin volunteered for the U.S. Army in San Francisco, California on 30 January 1942.

Shortly before Pearl Harbor, when men over 28 years of age were released, Inglin received his discharge. One month after Pearl Harbor, he volunteered to join the parachute troops.

Treasured by his parents in the last letter received from him with which he enclosed a copy of the Stars and Stripes in which his picture appeared, with that of another allied paratrooper, with a group of Dutch civilians. It was taken after a town was captured, a few hours after landing.

He was first buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery of Grand Failly, France.
