Pfc Harold D. Roy graduated from Clifton High School and in 1940 and graduated from Montclair State Teachers College. He was employed at the United States Rubber Company.

He volunteered for the Army of the United States in Newark, New Jersey on 23 December 1941.

He was initially buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery of Grand Failly, France.

In 1936 the family changed their name from Rojofsky to Roy.
