Pvt Eugene J. Muffler attended high school for four years and was employed at the Harwood plant of the Pennsylvania Power and Light Company before he enlisted in Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania on 16 September 1942.

He was first buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery in Grand Failly, France.
