2nd Lt Ernest S. Kruchten attended the University of North Dakota for two years and was enrolled in the ROTC program.
He joined the U.S. Army Reserve in Grand Forks, North Dakota on 3 June 1942.

Lt Kruchten is remembered at Grandview Cemetery in Fort Collins, Larimer County, Colorado listed on his parents marker.
