Pvt Grove graduated from Chambersburg High School in 1941. After that he attended the Gallups Island Maritime Training School in Boston, for several months and the Capitol Radio Engineering Institute in Washington, D.C. for a year.

A letter from the War Department received by Dr. and Mrs. Grove previously indicated that Pvt. Grove "became missing while on a mission with other members of his platoon to clear the woods of enemy and take high ground near Fays, Belgium. He was last seen in that vicinity."

Pvt Grove served as a radio operator on a half-track.

His brother, Sgt Davison Grove, served in Italy.
