Sgt Michael Chernansky enlisted at Fort George G. Meade, Maryland on 28 April 1942.He served at many camps before going overseas in February 1945. He worked for the Steel Coal Company at Coleraine before his induction.
"Here at Oberhof we were nearing a Nazi stronghold so the resistance was stiffened. We approached Oberhof on 3 April, a cold day with snow still on the ground. We were waiting for the engineers to remove a road block."
