F/O Wayne E. Carter joined the Regular Army in Roswell AAF, New Mexico on 9 November 1942. He died in a German prisoner of war camp from wounds received in action, according to a notification received through the Red Cross and the War department by his wife.A graduate from the glider pilot school at Lubbock, Texas, he was appointed a flight officer and went overseas in August. He was a former Millikin university student and was employed at the Blakeney and Plum clothing store prior to entering the service.
Statement from 1st Lt Robert M. Newman:
"Last sighted making a normal pattern for landing, apparently under control."
F/O Carter was shot on the ground by enemy soldiers. He was captured near 's-Hertogenbosch, the Netherlands.
