Pfc Joseph A. Carchidi enlisted as a member of the National Guard at Kingston Target Range, New York on 2 December 1939.The Bronze Star awarded posthumously for meritorius service in connection with military operations against the enemy on 29th July 1944 was presented to his mother Mrs Grace Carchidi at an impressive ceremony at Fort Jay, Governor's Island, Friday 20th April 1945.
Pfc Carchidi was first buried at Saint James Permanent Cemetery in Saint James, France.
