More information
2nd Lt Raymond H. Mannwas a general office clerk before he joined the Air Corps of the U.S. Army Reserve at Baer Field, Fort Wayne, Indiana on 5 November 1942.Lt Col Ralph J. Watson:
"On 14 October 1944, I was squadron leader of a formation on a strafing mission to the Budapest area in Hungary. Lt Mann was flying as Red No. 4. We had strafed some locomotives and were heading southwest at 50 feet above the deck when some light flak caused our flight to break up for a moment. When we reformed, Lt Mann was not with us. We circled the area looking for him, and I called on the R/T but received no answer. When last seen, he was in the area of 47.02 north 15.54 east at 1205 hours and 50 feet above the deck heading southwest. No calls were heard from Lt Mann, indicating that he may have been hit. We continued on our mission."
He is remembered at the Rice Cemetery in Elkhart, Elkhart County, Indiana.
