A/C-47 aircraft, number 43-15131 piloted by 1st Lt Roger L. Aldrin 305th Troop Carrier Group had a mid air collision at approximately 1130 hours, 30 November 1944, near Rance, Belgium.
Staff Sergeant Harold T. Wright was killed November 30 in Rance, Belgium in an aircraft accident. Sgt Wright served as a radio operator on a C-47 Skytrain and was charged with the repair and operation of radio communication on his troop and cargo-carrying plane. He went overseas almost a year ago and was in the first invading airwave on 'D' day, his first combat invasion in the European theater of operations was a part of the gigantic troop carrier flotilla that dropped Allied paratroopers on fortress Europe, spearheading the attack on the Normandy beachheads.
Sgt Wright was inducted into the army September 3, 1942 and attended the technical school at Sheppard Field, Texas, before going to Scott Field, Ill., for advanced instruction in radio operation and mechinics. He was stationed at Pope Field, N.C. and Baer Field, Ind. before being sent overseas last spring.
Born in Seldona, Sgt Wright moved with his family to Greeley when he was a small boy. He attended the Greeley schools and was graduated in 1938 from Greeley High School. He took an active interest in the Future Farmers of America while enrolled. Later he went to San Diego, where he was employed at the Sollar Aircraft company until returning to Greeley for his army induction.
