More information

Sgt John T. Holt volunteered for the Army of the United States in Fort Devens, Massachusetts on 11 March 1943.

1st Lt Charles M. Simpson:
“I was flying as pilot of a B-24 in Number 4 position of A flight. Lt Babb’s ship was flying in Number 5 position of A flight, to the rear and right of my ship. Approximately 10 minutes from our successful run over the target I noticed another ship from a different flight come in under Lt Babb. After flying slightly to the front and lower than the ship Lt Babb was flying, it suddenly swerved up and crashed into Lt Babb’s ship. Although we had experienced intense, accurate flak over the target and heavy attacks by enemy fighters, neither were in evidence at the time of this collision. Both ships were severely damaged and broke up almost immediately after contact. I saw three parachutes emerge from the wreckage but was unable to verify which ship they came from.”

2nd Lt Donald B. Graham:
“Sgt Holt was probably caught in the fuselage and went down with the plane.”
