Pfc Crawford E. Handley graduated from Anderson High School and attended Wabash College for one year before he joined the U.S. Army Reserve at Fort Benjamin Harrison, Indiana on 27 March 1944.
He was first buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery in Limey, France.
