More information

2nd Lt. Franklin W. Young stated:
"I was flying #3 to Lt George H. Logan Jr, and we were at 23,000 feet on our way home from escorting bombers that bombed Hamm, Germany. I noticed he was flying very funny. This lasted about a minute when he pulled up very steep, and the aircraft did a half-roll and went straight down, doing a slow aileron roll. I did a spiral around him, reaching a speed of about 500. The last I saw of him, he went down through the clouds that were about 5,000 feet. I went down through the clouds to see where he crashed, but I could not see any smoke. This took place southeast of the Zuider Zee between Apeldoorn and Zwolle. As he was going down, I called him three times and asked if he was ok, but received no answer."

Lt Logan's body was completely mutilated and burned, and could not be identified. He was initially buried in the Terwolde Cemetery in Voorst on 5 October 1944.
