Cpl Louie J. Itule graduated from Tucson High School.

He enlisted in Phoenix, Arizona on 5 December 1942.

Cpl Itule was killed in action while investigating bridges across the Moselle River, west of Bayon, France.

He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal posthumously. The citation cited: On September 10, 1944, Cpl Louie J. Itule was placed in charge of a bridge reconnaissance party. It's mission was to investigate the bridges across the Moselle river west of Bayon, France. In the act of investigating one of the bridges, Cpl Itule was fatally wounded by an enemy anti-personnel mine. His party acquired valuable information relative to fords across the Moselle river, and also significant information pertaining to the extent of the damage to a vital bridge over the canal in the vicinity. This mission was completed regardless of the fact that the enemy had the area well covered with machine gun and small arms fire. The sacrifice made by Cpl Itule was supreme. In giving his life the success of his organization's mission was made more secure. He performed his duty without hesitation in a manner market by courage and determination.

He was first buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery of Champigneul, France.
