Pfc Alfonso W. Di Fonzo enlisted in Boston, Massachusetts on 23 April 1943.

In a letter written to the family the battalion chaplain stated that he was killed while on a mission with his platoon to secure Hill 605 near Eloyes. In the process of moving into the attack they were hit heavy rifle and machine gun fire. He was killed instantly.
