More information

Technical Sergeant Chicknowski graduated from Hemlock High School in 1938.

He joined the Regular Army on 21 December 1939 and was sent to Mitchel Field. From there he went to an Air Corps technical school at Scott Field, Illinois, to study direct current typewriting and basic code and then returned to Scott Field. From there he was sent to the Carribean area which included stations in the Panama Canal Zone, Trinidad and Dutch Guinea, returning to the United States in December 1943, the first time in more than three years.

Sgt Chicknowski then reported to Sedalia Air Field, Missouri as a radio instructor. Here he remained until 12 December 1944, then went overseas, landing first in England and going from there to France. He was transferred to the Air Transport Command.

The aircraft crashed during landing on airstrip R1. The entire crew of five men was killed.
