1st Lt Robert E. Lowe attended high school for four years.

He volunteered for the Air Corps of the Army of the United States in Des Moines, Iowa on 20 February 1942. He graduated from navigation school at Hondo Army Air Field in Hondo, Texas on 7 January 1943.

The aircraft crashed during landing on airstrip R1. The entire crew of five men was killed.
