More information

2nd Lt Arnold P. Warmuth Jr. enlisted in Seattle, Washington on 9 March 1942.

Statement from Warren Gould, 19162825, S/Sgt 559th Bomb Sq.:
"We were flying number four position in the high box when I saw the plane hit. It seemed to me that it was hit in the bomb bays and the right wing. Then I saw one chute open and watched it. It sailed back about two or three miles into the water. A few seconds later, I saw two more chutes open, about two thousand feet below the plane. A short time later I saw the wing break off and the plane go into a spin passing through the clouds in a mass of flames."
