1st Lt Joseph A. Farren was employed as a purchasing agent and boarding department supervisor at the Silkay Hosiery Mills.He enlisted on 12 May 1941 and was stationed at Fort Jackson, South Carolina. A year later he was graduated from the Officer's school in Aberdeen, Maryland. He was commissioned a second lieutenant in the ordnance department. After a year at Aberdeen he volunteered for the paratroopers. He first saw action in the Pacific.
