More information

T/5 Joseph P. Fox enlisted in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on 29 March 1941.

Per Lt. Alden D. Allen, Commanding Officer: T/5 Fox was killed "...during an enemy encounter attack and was caused by tank fire."
Silver Star Citation: "For gallantry in action on 2 March 1945 in Germany. Following a successful assault against entrenched enemy riflemen, the squad of which Technician Fifth Grade Fox was a member suddenly received an intense volume of machine gun and 20mm gun fire from their front. While the remainder of his squad sought cover in the trenches just captured, Technician Fifth Grade Fox immediately began to advance toward the enemy gun positions. The example of courage which he displayed in this, his first major engagement, inspired the remainder of the squad to resume the attack and capture the machine gun position which paved the way for the company to accomplish their mission and capture 8 multi-barreled 20mm guns. Technician Fifth Grade Fox's conspicuous gallantry and disregard for personal safety reflect the highest credit to himself and exemplify the finest traditions of the armed forces of the United States."
