More information

Pfc Ambrose Van Steenburg worked for a local construction company before he joined the Regular Army on 17 July 1939.

His brother Emerson was first reported missing in action in Belgium in December but a short time later he was listed as prisoner of war. In an article in the Press and Sun-Bulletin of 8 June 1945 it was announced that he was awarded the Medal of Honor for capturing 200 German prisoners. This information is wrong. His brother was never awarded a Medal of Honor.
