1st Lt James O. Dick Jr. graduated from Cumberland University where he studied law. He had his prelegal training at the University of Texas and before entering service practiced law for two years. Lt Dick was in service about two years and had been overseas a little over a year. The War Department referred to him as a first lieutenant, a promotion his parents did not know had been given him.
