Pfc Donald O. Kosbau was lightly wounded in action and transferred to the 108nd Evacuation Hospital on 8 August 1944. For this wound he was awarded the Purple Heart Medal a first time.It is not known when Pvt Kosbau suffered the wounds of which he died and the exact location of his death is also uncertain. At the time he was wounded his unit was fighting in the vicinity of Birgel-Düren, Germany.
