S/Sgt Joseph Collins enlisted on 27 October 1942 at Cleveland, Ohio.Together with seven of his comrades, he was executed by members of Kampfgruppe Peiper of the 1st SS Panzer Division, Leibstandarte Adolf Hitler. They were all shot in the head. A monument, right next to the hotel, commemorates them.
