More information
Pfc George M. Cagle was killed accidentally by a machine gun in a tank. The guns were supposed to be on lock but this gun wasn't. A soldier reached down into the tank, searching for something and accidentally touched the shooting mechanism of the gun. Apparently, Pfc Cagle was standing in front of the tank when the gun went off and was hit in the head.He was initially buried in a temporary grave at Henri-Chapelle on 8 March 1945. After being disinterred and after the cemetery was given a permanent status, he was given his final resting place on 5 August 1948.
On the group photo, Pfc Cagle is standing far left.
