Pvt Edward J. Schutt Jr. enlisted in Syracuse, New York on 22 September 1942. He served in the Sicilian and Italian campaigns. He was wounded twice for which wounds he received the Purple Heart Medal the fist two times.

Pvt Schutt was initially buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery of Molenhoek near Nijmegen in the Netherlands.
