More information

Pfc George M. Lovelady worked on a farm before he joined the Regular Army in Jackson, Mississippi on 9 July 1942.

His Louisiana family nicknamed him Doots.

After initially being reported as missing in action, his remains and those of two other American soldiers were found by a farmer in a field. None of his siblings ever knew what had happened to him.

Both of his brothers also served in WWII. His brother Steve landed at Omaha Beach and later married a French girl. His brother James served in the Pacific.
