T/Sgt Walter J. Holda was born as Vladyslov Holda on 20 January 1921.

He enlisted on 31 August 1942 in Chicago, Illinois.

On 27 April 1945 his platoon was ordered to clear a small town on the southern shore of the Danube river. When they entered the town the enemy started firing. During this action Sgt Holda was killed.

He had been awarded the Silver Star Medal posthumously for his actions on 15 April 1945.
